Occupational Therapy Assessments - The REAL screening tool
The REAL™ (The Roll Evaluation of Activities of Life) is a helpful screening tool to assess your child’s ability to care for themselves at home, at school and in the community.
It is a standardised assessment for children aged 2 - 18 years. It requires the main care given to fill out a comprehensive assessment questionnaire, rating your child’s perform in activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL)
This assessment is helpful when completing Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP), understanding how a child performs their ADLs at home and to monitor performance over time.
It can also be helpful for children who require supportive living colleges or part time homes as it yields information about the level of support they might need. This assessment, therefore is very helpful for social worker or care workers.
